Movie of Drosophila larvae responding to an olfactory stimulus.

One microliter of ethyl acetate was placed on the right side of the plate. The behavior of the approximately 50 larvae in this assay is measured over the course of a 2 minute and 30 second experiment. The majority of the animals prefer the right side of the plate (which contains the ethyl acetate stimulus) to the left side of the plate (which contains an empty control filter).

A whole mount preparation of an adult maxillary palp showing all 120 olfactory neurons and their axons as they extend toward the antennal lobe.
